Joe Capobianco: Sketches, and Tattoo's
Tue, 05 Jan 2010 18:25:00 -0500
I've been wanting to post a couple more sketches that go along with the tattoos they eventually become. So IM posting two of my newest, as well as the first 2 completed in 2010.   The first one was done on a feller who came all the way over from Australia, by way of Washington DC (seems they were visiting family for the holidays, and decided to kill 2 birds, with 1 stone). IM showing the sketches first. I was told a gypsy, or Day of the Dead gal. Two kill 2 of my own birds, I obviously drew the gypsy gal first.  Than Adding a piece of Tracing paper (old school I know), I add a bit of makeup. Than I work up my Line drawing. Done the same way, just the face, and than the Makeup. At this point IM still unsure what he's looking to get. What you see next is the final product, after 5 hours of tattooing  Next up I have something not seen done by me often enough. Its a Black and grey Skull (I so love this sorta stuff). The before is a real quick sketch, and than the tattoo.   And lastly, a good ole reliable pin-up. You may remember the sketch from a few weeks ago. Really dug the piece, and the final result. See the image in my Tattoo, gallery for some more insight on this one.

Tattooed Heart Studios: Minimizing the Pain of Tattoos
Mon, 04 Jan 2010 11:47:00 -0500
Minimizing The Pain Of Tattoos  Baltimore, Maryland Back Tattoo on Fernandez by John Garancheski of Tattooed Heart Studios in Glen Burnie, Md.   Today, here at Tattooed Heart.com, we are discussing pain or discomfort associated with getting tattoos. No matter what you may hear, there really is no way to predict the amount of pain that you'll experience when getting a tattoo. If you arrive with determination and the right frame of mind, it may not hurt you as much as you thought.  On the other hand, if you arrive at the studio scared half to death it will more than likely hurt you more than you thought possible.   Tattoos involve piercing into skin, which almost always involves pain.  No matter how big or how small the tattoo may be or where it is located, you can expect to feel some pain.  The overall amount of pain you experience though, all depends on your tolerance.  If you have a high pain tolerance, you may feel next to nothing during the entire process.   When you get a tattoo, the needles will puncture your skin at very fast rates and variable depths.  The outline of the tattoo is easily the most painful, as the needles will be used to create a black line that will stand out on the tattoo.  This part need to be inserted fairly deeply and carefully to ensure that it's done correctly.  The shading of the tattoo normally isn't painful, although it depends on the penetration depth and effect that you desire.   Normally, the pain you feel is a slight burn or scratching feeling.  If the tattoo is going to be on an area where there is less bone and tissue such as the wrist or chest, the pain will be a bit more intense.  Areas like the arms and legs however, normally aren't that painful.  Areas such as these have more tissue and muscle, which will lessen the amount of pain you feel.   Even though some pain is to be expected, there are ways that you can minimize the pain.  Below are some tips that will help you deal with the pain.   1. Never show up to a get a tattoo on drugs or drunk.  This will thin out your blood, causing you to bleed more. Most importantly, drugs and alcohol will cloud you positive tattoo experience. Instead, show up for your tattoo appointment excited and energized.   2. Always choose a tattoo artist that you are comfortable around.  If you have confidence in your artist you can minimize the pain a great deal. Check out our tattoo portfolios and decide which artists style you like and then email us so we can set you up with a free consultation.   3. On the day of your tattoo appointment, show up at the studio with sheer determination.  You should accept the fact that the tattoo will take time.  Quality work is an art and should never be rushed.   4. If the pain becomes too much to bear, you should let your tattoo artist know immediately.  He will allow you to take a break, or stop and come back later.  You can always break up your sessions, as some tattoos don't need to be finished immediately.   5. To ease your mind, you could bring your own personal music device.  This way, you can take your mind to a different place and focus on something other than the tattoo.   6. If you are getting a larger tattoo feel free to bring some small portable snacks since you might want a small quick snack during a break.   Now you should feel like you are better prepared to get your brand new tattoo from one of our experts here at Tattooed Heart Studios. Hopefully we answered some of your questions about the pain related to tattooing. Check out the rest of the helpful tattoo related information on our Frequently Asked Questions page for more exciting stuff to read.   If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask anyone of our talented staff over here at Tattooed Heart Studios.
