Looking back over all the ACS activities that we covered this year, we're proud to have provided so much information, and we're looking forward to continuing to serve you in the New Year! Important news we brought you this past year included highlights of the ACS National Meetings in Salt Lake City and Washington, DC, including access to recorded national meeting presentations; timely links to services for unemployed ACS members; inauguration of the ACS Fellows program; focus on green chemistry and sustainability efforts by ACS; recognition of the generous donation in support of education programs from the Hach Foundation; launch of the Employment Dashboard; introduction of the new journal, ACS Chemical Neuroscience; and announcement of strategic efforts like the ACS-SCI alliance, as well as the establishment of National Lab Day in 2010. You can read everything we've published in the ACS Matters archive; if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, we'd love to hear from you. Thank you again for reading, and please accept our best wishes for the New Year! Sample Journal of Chemical Education Now Available Online Tue, 29 Dec 2009 14:30:00 -0500 The January 2010 sample issue of the Journal of Chemical Education (JCE) is now available for viewing on the ACS Web Editions Platform. This issue marks the official beginning of the partnership between ACS Publications and the ACS Division of Chemical Education in the co-publication of the premier journal for chemical education. You can view a video interview with Editor-in-Chief Norbert J. Pienta, in which he affirms his commitment to continue publication of "all of the high value, quality material that people have expected all these years," and notes the addition of Associate Editors to help assign reviewers and adjudicate manuscripts as well an Editorial Advisory Board to help shape the vision for the journal of the future. ACS on Campus Debuts in 2010 at Vanderbilt University Tue, 29 Dec 2009 14:30:00 -0500 ACS Publications is excited to be spending January 27-28, 2010, on the Vanderbilt University campus, for the debut of the ACS on Campus initiative. ACS Publications and Membership & Scientific Advancement staff will be on site, providing training on ACS web tools, introducing new ACS products, and sharing the ACS strategic vision - "improving people's lives through the transforming power of chemistry" - with some of the most important contributors and users of ACS content. Because we want to hear from the entire ACS community - librarians, students, researchers, and faculty - we invite the Vanderbilt campus, all members of the Nashville Section of the ACS, and anyone else who is in the Nashville area to attend the various events on those two days. Visit the ACS on Campus web site for a complete agenda of events or to request an invitation. Last Chance to Apply for Public Policy Fellowships Tue, 29 Dec 2009 14:30:00 -0500 Time is short to apply for one of the ACS Public Policy Fellowships; the deadline for applications is December 31. The ACS Congressional and Science Policy Fellowship Programs provide a unique opportunity for ACS members to gain practical experience and insights into public policy by working on Capitol Hill or at ACS in Washington, DC. ACS Public Policy Fellows provide science policy expertise to policymakers on topics such as homeland security, climate change, and science education. If you're interested in getting involved in shaping science policy, apply now.
